SBS submitted a reply to the Call for Evidence for the revision of the New Legislative Framework (NLF). SBS believes that the NLF has been effective in supporting the free movement of goods and that it has played a central role in the achievement of the Single Market, providing tangible benefits to European SMEs. The revision of the NLF should maintain its overarching principles and proceed towards a “moderate revision“.
SBS has also highlighted some areas where a revision can bring improvements to the NLF framework, such as:
- Alignment and clarification of relevant definitions (eg: „substantial modification“; „refurbishment“; „repair“),
- Increasing the digital integration of the Single Market, also via a progressive, well-designed roll-out and widespread adoption of the Digital Product Passport
- Ensuring timely and consistent responses to non-compliant and dangerous products
