SBS membership allows members to:
Be heard
As a member, you will help to shape SBS’ positions. SBS will hear and voice your views to EU decision-makers and the European and international standardisation organisations: CEN, CENELEC, ETSI, ISO and IEC. You can also contribute directly to establishing, changing or blocking the development of standards.
Have more weight
As a member, you will have access to the technical knowledge of some of SBS’ 60 experts representing SMEs’ position in strategic standardisation bodies. You will be given the opportunity to sharpen your skills by attending all of SBS’ seminars and events free of charge, as well as chances to meet new people and expand your network.

As your watchdog, SBS will keep you informed about the latest political and technical developments. Not only will this allow you to identify new business opportunities, it will also help you to anticipate new constraints.

SBS membership is open to:
- European interprofessional associations or industry-sector federations representing the activities of craft enterprises and/or small- and medium- sized enterprises (SMEs)
- National interprofessional associations or industry-sector federations of the European Union, EFTA (European Free Trade Association) Member States and candidate countries for EU membership, which represent the activities of craft enterprises and/or SMEs;
Any association wishing to become a SBS member must send a written application showing that:
- if falls within one of the 4 categories of associations mentioned
- it represents craft enterprises and/or SMEs in at least one European country
- it is able to differentiate the positions of craft enterprises/SMEs from those of large companies if its members are not exclusively craft enterprises/SMEs
- it has an interest in European and/or international standardisation and that it agrees with SBS’ objectives and activities.
The SBS articles of association also foresees the possibility to become an SBS partner. Partnership is open to:
- European associations of young entrepreneurs or contributing spouses
- National craftwork and SME associations of European countries that are neither members of the European Union or EFTA (European Free Trade Association) nor candidates for EU membership
- Any type of institution or organisation with some sort of link to craft enterprises and/or SMEs, which cannot become members.
