Mirror committees
The national standardisation organisations have ‘mirror committee’ which are responsible for developing the national position on a particular standard and present their position to the relevant CEN Technical Committee/CENELEC Technical Body. Through the National Standards Body or National Committee, the manufacturer can become involved in these mirror committees and it may also be possible for them to become a member of the national delegation of the CEN Technical Committee/CENELEC Technical Body, or to be nominated to serve as a technical expert in one of the Working Groups.
Following the same structure, SBS experts have to create their own mirror committees. The role of the mirror committees is to form positions on the issues debated in the corresponding Technical Committee. The positions expressed by the SBS expert in a Technical Committee are the result of an open and consensus based consultation of the European members of the corresponding Mirror Committee. The experts appointed in SBS Mirror Committees are people with relevant knowledge of the matters subject to standardisation in the corresponding Technical Committee. The experts are appointed by SME associations or SME undertakings, whether they belong to SBS’s membership or not.
